So I order an AIO box, and received it last week. It was fine when I got it, been sitting unused for a about a week, and I look at it and find it's like this.

Similar pair of cracks on opposite sides of the box.

Very weird. I might say there was an impact of some sort if it was one side, but both sides have similar cracks.

Any idea what might have caused it? I'm fairly certain I didn't hit it, not did anything else to it (except possibly a 10 lbs cat sat on it or jumped on it while I was not looking. Plausible, but to eta adapt :) an expression @YHSublime used with me before, that's like looking at a hoofprint and, seeing no horses, assuming a unicorn did it).

It seems it's easily fixed? It also seems it might be a design defect?

No matter the cause, I'm tempted to have a word with the mfgr, but I assume they will say "well you must have broken it we won't take a return or exchange etc." and I'll have to argue with them.

Weldon 4 is like water or weldon 16 is like super glue consitancy.
Either will work by welding the 2 together.
Do not use super glue.
Weldon 4will work better as it is an acrylic cement
Superglue will also hold, but may discolor at the bond line.

@fishguy242, this is like the "bat signal" hahaha. Well, this is interesting. I would suggest @VR28man contact the manufacture prior to trying any fix. Manufactures assistance on this would be best. if any attempt to repair is done, may void warranty. step one, talk with the manufacture.

Fair enough, thanks all! I will update you all on what happens once I get some final result from the manufacturer.

No dice from the vendor, Fijicube, either from their email or their ebay store (I purchased through the latter). I know somone who had no communication from them in another issue, but in the end they did come through for him.

I will initiate a return - we'll see how that goes..........

Interesting. Didn't initiate a return yet (too busy last night), but within a few hours after I post I finally get an email from them. (and to repeat, I got no response from my first message a week ago and then a second message 2 days ago, but I did get one soon after editing this thread title to include the name Fijicube and then mentioning them in the last post, as well as complaining on someone else's thread)

Thanks for your message. Acrylic does not crack just by sitting there without an external force applied to the acrylic. We can ship you a replacement at 50% discount and buyer pays shipping.

I'm partially interested in the assertion about acrylic - which I find plausible. My only beef is that we have similar damage on both sides - the only plausible way that could happen is if roughly equal force was applied across a certain point the entire top of the box. Me stepping on it would not cause that. Dropping would not do it. (nor would shipping damage, not that I saw any). The only roughly plausible thing might be if one of the cats stepped on the top fifth of the overflow (one paw then a second paw) at two roughly identical spots on either side of the center. I really don't know if that "hypothesis" is seeing unicorns for horses, or being Sherlock Spock*.

Anyway, main thing to be aware of, regardless of what caused it, clearly one should be careful with thin acrylic boxes, especially if you have cats. :D.

But the main thing I'm thinking about is whether I should take the replacement (cost will be less than $50 - but what will I do with the old one?) or if should just use one of the adhesives recommended in this thread and be done with it.

hmmm........
