So I did a small thing today that when my wife finds out who knows what she’ll say.

Backstory, the heater in my house has gone out and probably won’t be replaced til next week. Something in it cracked and it’ll cost just a little more to replace the whole thing with a brand new up to date heater.

Meanwhile we’ve had to run our unvented gas fireplace for a few days/nights so far. Not much of a problem, crack the window a few inches and the gas smell is not so bad. Where the problem falls is my pH has been dropping to as low as 7.3 at night and I’m lucky to get up to 7.8 during the day. So I kinda had no choice left but to drill a hole in the wall behind the tank and insert a ridged 3/8” pvc pipe to attach to my skimmer air intake. Why I never did this before I have no idea but wow it worked fast. In less then 30 mins so far my pH has gone from 7.4 up to 7.66 so far and keeps rising. I think I may have after all these years fixed my low pH issues, but we’ll see.

Got some new additions today. Bought at my LFS but was told they were from Unique Corals.

Couple more after trading in a couple of frags, the big Monti Cap and the 2 big Birdsnest. I kept a few frags of Birdsnest and a big chunk of the Monti Cap.

Best guess from the LFS owner was a Blueberry Lemonade Acro.

I decided to switch salts so I'm now using Fritz RPM blue box. Seems like a good salt so far but time will tell. Been using it for about 2 weeks and so far so good. I hope it'll work out cause I bought a 200gallon size.

Nice progression. Great growth and coloration. That pink stylo is stunning.

Ok let’s see what all the commotion is about with these algae reactors. My new Pax Bellum ARID N18 just came today. Already have it plumbed with an MJ1200 and a valve set to half way and Chaeto in it. The recommended pump is an MJ900 but I messaged Pax Bellum and they said the MJ1200 is fine to use. But for peace of mind I put the valve on the intake tube.

Going to run opposite light cycles staring at 23:00-03:00 and gradually increase by 1 hour a week until it’s on a full opposite light cycle or my No3 says to slow down.

As of late these past few months I’ve been having issues keeping my No3 under 10ppm, currently it’s at 32ppm according to Red Sea Pro Nitrate test kit. Even changing 10 gallons a week it still just rises right back up.

Great looking tank and growth. Have you seen any changes now that you have been running the algae reactor longer now? What fish do you have in the tank now?
