I have broswed the forum for a long time and it wasn't until recently actually became a member. I have been working on a tank up as of late from my 25g Lagoon to what will be an 80g shallow lagoon tank.

Felt like the has come for me to actually give a try at documenting my progress.

So here it is.
Tank: 80g shallow tank (48x24x16) drilled for Eshopps Eclipse Large overflow

Stand: DIY stand, nothing amazing but looks decent

Esphopps R-200 gen 3 sump. They discounted this model so I got a great deal.

Skimmer: Reef Octopus Classic 150int

Still deciding on lights, flow, and return pump but leaning towards the Ecotech line for each.

Plans are to move everything from the lagoon over once I finish and get things aquascaped and cycled.

Here's are some of progress pictures:

Thanks! Little extra cleaning won't hurt. At least I'm transferring the 25 to the 80 and won't have to clean two.

As far as fish go...I currently have a pair of clowns that will go in. Additional stocking will be maybe an another 6 fish.

where did you get the tank with those dimensions ?

Was ordered in through my LFS

I have the same tank. Love the dimensions.

I have always loved the dimensions of this tank. Now that I have the space I took the opportunity to upgrade. I have definitely broswed through your build thread! Always looking to see how others did their layouts, equipment used, etc.

Did some aquascaping today. Worked on the right side island, left side will be made from rock in the current 25g. Will probably change it up a couple times but pretty happy with this.

@Hemmdog I have not purchased lights yet for this build but I am leaning toward Gen 5s. I had new gen 4s figured into my budget and I know I could have bought them on sale and been under budget but I figured since Gen 5s are retailing for the same price I might as well go for them. Waiting to see some in person at my LFS before making my purchase.

Haven't done a very good job of updating my progress...so here's where I'm at as of yesterday.

Tank is plumbing, power supply and cable management done, lights mounted (2 gen5 xr15 pros, will add my gen3 when I move everything over from my 25g). At this point it's ready for water and a month of cycle just to be safe before moving my established system over.

Here are some pictures of the recent progress

You're going to love the height, I don't regret anything about mine. If running heavy acropora, keep the rock heights below the half-way line of the tank is my only advice.

My only wonder now is do I keep the back black or order it without it. Where the tank is going the wall behind is like a rose color and idk how I’d feel seeing it through the tank

I went with laminated black rear glass, I would 100% say black out the back if at all possible either via glass, vinyl or even painting the exterior rear panel yourself. You will hate seeing the wall and any cords / piping.

I would agree with creating a black or blue background. Im not a fan of blue but i know there are people who prefer blue over black. Either way it helps add contrast as well as hide pluming, cords, etc, that may run behind the tank as Kyl stated
