I’m planning on adding a second sump (24 inch Fiji Advanced). I’m planning to put miracle mud and some live and cheap rock in the skimmer chamber. I was planning on filling the second chamber with marine pure spheres and leaving the third chamber open for other media when needed.

I also plan to give Tropic Marin carbon dosing a shot. I’m working on slowly dropping my nutrients now. Currently at 10 ppm nitrates and .2 P04.

My system is 6 months old and is mixed reef with sps towards the top, zoas euphillia chalice and high end shrooms bottom half of the tanks.

I’m looking for ideas to improve the effectiveness of my second sump and interested if anyone has any suggestions for improving upon my plan. Any input appreciated.

What's your goal with this? Your nitrate and phos are nice as is.. are you looking to add biodiversity with the mud? It doesn't seem like you need all of this additional filtration if you're at those nutrient levels already.

Biodiversity. I want the benefit of more live rock without all the live rock. I’m not getting color and PE I’ve gotten in the past. I have less rock than in past systems and most of what I got isn’t natural live rock. I hope to beef up beneficial bacteria with the mud and spheres and control nutrients with a separate Refugium.

Look at indo pacific sea farms. They have some nice biodiversity packs that can really Jumpstart your new sump
