I’ve been wanting to add one since upgrading to my larger tank and I do have a YT in there now. I’ve read that they can be hit or miss with aggressive behaviour, and my tank is quite peaceful aside from the Flame Angel giving my Anthia a hard time now now and again. I’m always cautious about upsetting the balance with additions, so I’m truly on the fence.

Anyone have any horror stories of a jerk Tomini to the point where it had to be removed?

absolutely no issues whatsoever with mine. It’s a wonderful fish but like anything, there are exceptions. My tomini hasn’t even chased one fish that i’ve seen.

I've kept a Tomini in the past and generally they are peaceful... bigger concern is if the YT will accept it but YT's aren't the most aggressive of tangs either. You're likely just fine.

Had a tomini established and introduced a biota yellow after about 2 weeks in the acclimation box (incredibly small if you’ve never seen how they are shipped). Tomini made many attempts to go after the YT in the box for the first few days. Let the YT loose and they briefly had a stand off but that lasted only a matter of seconds to work out who was in charge. Probably equivalent in size now with no real issues. Only thing that pops up is jockeying for the prime sleeping spot at night. The coral beauty, yellow and tomini all jockey for this one crevice to sleep in. The tomini always wins and everyone always go back to their respective beds but every night the same story plays out with the same result. So to a previous post about them not being bullied I’d agree with. Mine tends to be pretty tolerant but just won’t get bullied if that makes sense. So it might be more dependent on the demeanor of your yellow on if this works out for you

150 total volume. I don’t use gallons as i find it almost irrelevant
Just wondering if it was a 4x2x2, 120 tank is all.
Trying to get the landscape played out in my mind.
It could have been a 4x2x18, 100 gallon is why I'm asking.
150 total volume is irrelevant to the situation, it's free swimming space for fish comfort I was wondering about.
Tomini are generally mostly peaceful but they're a tang and with that can always come drama.
It'll depend mostly on the yellow.
They can become extremely bullish in their old age and size, very territorial as well.
I think it's worth a try with a 4x2x2, should be enough room, especially if you've got a good amount of rock and food.
The Tomini also remain rather small which will help.
I had one for many years and never had one issue.
However, it was also the only tang in the tank.
That was also a 60x18x20 tank.
Good luck.
Joel

Hi Joel,

No worries, it’s 48x25x22. I just don’t use gallons as some are tall and useless but have lots of water in them :). In freshwater we never used gallons, we always used dims, so it’s an old habit. Plus we can agree it’s usually misleading to use gallons, especially with sumps that can carry 1/3 of the overall volume.

I love the Tomini, but I’m a measure 18 times cut once kinda guy, so not impulsive when I buy things. I’d just hate to buy one and then have havoc. So if 15 ppl say no issues and 1 says issue, I like the odds. It if there’s 10 no issues and 3-4 issues, I’ll pass.

My kinda guy.
I'm the same.
As far as aquariums go, I take zero chances with fish.
My yellow is 12,large, extremely aggressive and extremely fussy.
Beautiful but I wouldn't add another fish of any kind.
My tank is 5 feet.
I only have 2 fish.

My yellow is chill, but it’s never seen another tang so all bets could be off.
