So I’m just wrapping up my QT for a square tail tang and a Bengaii Cardinal. My question is specifically for the tang. In QT, he has a PVC pipe that he calls home. It’s his safe spot whenever he gets spooked or at night. When I move him from QT to DT, my plan was to use an acclimation box as I have a YT and a flame Angel in my DT. The Flame typically just bugs my Anthia because they are both red, but I know my YT has the ability to be a jerk. He’s really a sweetheart to all the fish, but nothing in the DT is conspecific.

My question is, should I put the pvc pipe in the box with the tang right away? My fear is it will never come out, and the other fish won’t get much exposure, if any to it.
The alternative is to have no pvc pipe at first, so the fish can see it, but in an hour or two, put the pipe in there for it. Those couple hours will likely be super stressful as this has shown to be a more timid fish in qt.
Or do I just put both fish in after lights out and not do the acclimation box at all.

The tank is a 150g with lots of rock and nooks and crannies, but not a 6’ tank.

Cheers.

What I do…. Is put tang in acclimation box for 2-3 days if others show no aggression then release at lights off. Evening before releasing I put mirrors up on tank all over. Get other tang and aggressors distracted. If other fish showing aggression to fish in acclimation I’ve held for up to a week long before releasing. I’d suggest if possible also having a tank divider handy if needed to separate aggression. It can be WW3 sometimes! I didn’t think my whitetail would survive from my YT aggression but after 2-3 days they got along. Plan on the worst but hope for the best.

As far as pvc I always place one elbow or some shelter in acclimation box with fish.

Good luck! 👍

Copy, I’ll put the pvc in the box right away.

I take a soft media bag with bio media in it and put it in the acclimation box with the new fish. It gives him some cover to hide behind but it’s small and it’s not a cave, so he’s forced to see and be seen.
