I have a nice Bashsea sump but I don't think the return pump chamber is really big enough to do some of the things I want to do, I'm thinking about drilling a hole in the return pump section and fitting it with a 2" bulkhead and running a pipe to a 10 gal. tank I could use just for pumps, it would also give me a bit more room for overflow. If it doesn't work out I could always screw a bulkhead into it. Is there any reason this wouldn't work out?

It can work, I've seen it done a few times back when sumps were small and refugiums were just getting popular. Just be sure to test your ability to handle a power failure causing water to drain into the new tank!

Good luck. You should take pics and do a thread showing the net set up!
