Current setup:
60 gallons. 3ft long.

Planning to remove clowns and a wrasse.

Will replace with damsels.

I will keep a eibli angel and a falco hawkfish.

How many damsels should I add and should I be concerned about adding juvenile damsels?

What species should I consider?

OK. I like blue yellow tailed damsels and a school of 5 or more should work well.

I somewhat figure that going with one species rather than mixing species would be best. Is that true?

If so, is 5 too many in a 60g?

I intend to keep 2 fish and then would be adding 5?

You will want to look at damsels in the Chrysiptera genus. Azures, talbots, etc.

Numbers are hard to recommend as a lot of it has to do with the reef maturity and aquascape. Some damsels can be a bit territorial of their sleeping spot. Aquascape, and coral size, help in this area by providing plenty of room for everyone to sleep, spawn, retreat, and break line of sight if a squabble happens. You also need to consider the other fish in the tank and make sure they have their sleeping area. In short, if some pair up and successfully spawn that is when it can be a challenge in smaller aquariums. The male will be protective of the egg area. Some will be more aggressive than others.

There was a member here who had over 60 damsels in their 450 gallon tank (@ca1ore ). I have 11 Lyretail Damsels in my 210 gallon. I believe both of our tanks have a lot of rock and mature coral colonies which I feel makes the world of difference.
