I am using the Baling 3-part but the consumption increased so I decided to add half a teaspoon kalkwasser in ddw in the form of a slurry. I wonder how efficient is it as a lot of “snow” is apparent upon addition. Also I noticed that my phosphate was reduced to half. Corals seem happy and apparently unaffected by the kalkwasser snow.

If the snow dissolves it is magnesium hydroxide and that’s not a concern. If it is partly or mostly, or becomes, calcium carbonate, that reduces its effectiveness.

Such precipitation has always been a concern with slurry dosing.

Just an update : The kalkwasser slurry is Nicky taking care of PO4 it’s from 0.45 to 0.24:

So I found that 15 min after adding about a leveled teaspoon of kalkwasser to a 110g tank increased alkalinity by 1 kh.

That's about twice as much as I calculate is in a level teaspoon added to 110 actual gallons, but given all the uncertainties in bulk density, teaspoon measurement, and total volume estimates, it's not unreasonable. :)

Next time I will weigh the kalkwasser. Also the inaccuracy factor of the Hanna Checker is also part of the story
