I've used a long piece of PVC pipe wide enough to scoop sand down into. This helps to control the sand and put exactly where you want it and helps to reduce sand dust a bit.

What's the best way of rinsing it. Has to be done inside. Is tap water safe to use then a good soak in RO/DI afterwards?
