Adding a couple of zoa colonies to my reef today. The display size is about 200 gal.

Wondering.... Should I pretty much always put zoas on a rock island surrounded by substrate?

I've had zoas in nanos before... But I'm a bit paranoid now about them getting out of hand in a big tank... and most of my 'scape is glued down, so could be a bit problematic to remove rocks later.

Thoughts?

I just let mine populate everywhere and let the corals figure out their real estate lines. They are even covering the back wall.

I've not worried about this either. I have a large grow out tile with zoas on it, placed it, moved it, clearly some had grabbed on to the rock, so they are now in two places.

I can't really envision what the tank will look like in 3-4 years, I just want it to be full of life :)
