Over the last few years, I’ve been learning about things aquakeeping, in the freshwater realm. And now I’ve adopted an established 100+ gallon reef tank w/ sump. Here goes nothing…

Been reading, watching, researching a bit, so starting to understand what an undertaking we signed up for. But totally psyched at what I’ll get to learn!

What would you personally, as a more seasoned reefer, tell your younger reefer self, now, knowing what you know?

Wow! you just dove right in. HAHAHA Thats awesome!
Everyone is already saying it..... take it slow. So now that you have an established tank to care for, Id say get used to and knowledgeable about the maintenance needed. Then sit down and think about what your goals are to make the tank what you want it to be. Then research what is needed and add things slowly until you know how the tank and livestock are going to respond. I did none of that my first go round.
This Forum is amazing, and I have no doubt that you can get whatever questions you have answered by someone that has "been there and done that". GL and have fun! :)

Welcome to R2R! As others have said. Take it slow and ask questions before trying 'miracle cures'. There are very few real emergencies in a reef tank. Things take time to go bad and take time to correct but few are catastrophic. I guess: 'chill and enjoy the scenery'. Oh, and don't forget to ask questions, R2R is a great place to get help.

I would tell myself to never use my wife's good kitchen tools for the tank and to buy more towels. ;)

Welcome! Glad you joined. I'd tell myself: "go slow... they say go slow, but you (self) are hyper, so slow to self is still fast to tank" also, can never have enough towels

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)
