Those guys are cool! How hard to find are they?20gallons per Axolotl. I have 2 in a 32 gallon Fluval flex and they are just fine. They do like cooler water so I do recommend a chiller but you don’t need one.
they can regenerate tissue and parts of heart and brain. So if you cut it’s foot off it will grow back
Woah!! I’ve got a planted tank (it’s either 15 or 20 gallons, but it’s very short so there’s a large footprint). My understanding is that there should not be substrate because they can eat it? But are they okay with live plants, large pieces of dragon stone, and a large African root? Currently it’s a shrimp breeding project but honestly the shrimp get boring in such a large tank and axolotls are so cool! I keep the house at 70 F so is a chiller necessary? Are the live plants going to be a problem because of the lights I need to grow them (like are axolotls sensitive to high light?) and would they be okay with a platinum halfbeak for a tankmate (he’s about 3 1/2” and lives only at the surface of the water)? Here’s a pic of the tank right now. Ideally I’d like to keep the plants, large dragon stone in the back right and the wood piece for some cover (I hate those plastic aquarium decor things). Of course, I’d get rid of the gravel because it’s tiny and definitely edible, but it also keeps me from cleaning the glass down there which is really bugging me. I’d also take out the CO2 because I wouldn’t want it to hurt the axolotl and the plants don’t actually need it, it just helps. The light is pretty dim, not much brighter than the natural sunlight from the window right next to the tank.if it’s a substrate use sand. I hate sand. So I have bare bottom.
large rocks are fine but sharp edges need to be filed smooth.
Axolotls like as little light as necessary. Mine just hide under the rock structures. I made it cave like because they like to hide.
some people recommend no tank mates, some people have a community tank with them and have zero issues. It’s really dependent on the Axolotl.
as long as you can keep the water cool a chiller shouldn’t be necessary. But I still recommend one.
I’m gonna add to thiswhen I get back from michaels. My wife wants to go out so when I get back I will edit this again.
It’s gotten boring, that’s all. I’ve had it for a couple years and I feel like it just stagnates. It was really cool before I jumped into saltwater but now that I know the possibilities... it’s just not up to par anymore. Last question, are axolotls okay with mealworms? I’ve got a nice culture going for some of my large freshwater fish and my leopard geckos and I’m wondering if they’ll work for this guy too? That should work, but that tank is very nice looking, why rip it apart?

The skull with the coral on it. Did you put the skull in the tank for a while till it got bacteria on it before putting the coral on it??? I love the way it looks.

I love your puffers! Those are my favourite fish. Whether it be brackish, fresh or salt, there is something about how the puffers move around the water like a helicopter!
