Hi everyone,
My bubble tip split yesterday, probably because I stressed it.
I added my first sps pieces to this aquarium 3 days ago and to prepare I tested my Alkalinity.
Seems my coralline algae had stripped quite a bit of it over the past few months.
FromJanuary to April it had read either 9.8 or 9.5 on my Aquaforest test.
July was 6.8, and last Friday was 5.6.
I read it was safe to raise it by 1.4 in 1 day so I aimed for that.
It went up by 2 to 7.6.

Yesterday when I was rearranging some rocks and corals after the new corals being in there 2 days, I accidently knocked the anemones rock off it's pillar, I caught it and put it on the sand. As far as I know I didn't damage it in the "fall".
Woke up this morning to it in 2 pieces.
It was about 10" now it's 2 equal sized 5"ers.

They look pretty healthy but my tank is a mess, I want to know how long I should just leave everything before meddling again.
Also, would the 2 point rise in Alk cause it to split or maybe it was ready to anyway?
It had been an odd shape for a couple of months, like not round, more of an oval so I thought it was going to split back then but nothing happened.
Thanks in advance for any tips :)

The foot of the one on the glass isn’t fully round, I don’t know if that’s cause for concern? It’s like a thick U shape.

The other one I can’t see it clearly.

You basically just induced a split they will find a spot and be fine most likely. Make sure they don’t get into those power heads now. U shape is fairly normal it will round back out as long as it’s not torn.
Okay thanks :)
Yea the smaller powerhead on the left is really weak, so I wasn't worried before but now that these two are on the move I'll keep a close eye!

Let it heal naturally

If you don't want two BTAs, I'm sure your lfs would take it for cash or store credit at least.

+1 to it should be fine, cover powerheads if possible.

Yes, big changes in ALK will trigger a split. In some variants more than others.
