Advices for a new tank

Hello all !

The picture is the actual tank I have since 3 years, its an Oase 120L tank with no sump, just a basic one. I used a lowtech method with a huge sandbed, flow pump, heater, osmolator and dose pump. (I have an algae problem recently, so I use a Tunze skimmer for removing stuff in the water)

I am here because I wanna soon change for a new tank, a specially designed for reef with sump.

I saw those models all in one. What do you think ?

But it is better to have the sump behind the tank or under it ? And having a roll filter is way better than having socks ?

I would like a tank less than 280L because too annoying for me to make so many clean water everyweek.

Hi and welcome to Reef 2Reef!

Most of us would advise you to stay away from Red Sea tanks. There is a higher risk of seams failure on them compared to most other brands. Their smaller tanks like you are considering don’t have as many issues, but why take a chance when there are other brands?

I am not sure what brands are available in France, but Innovative Marine and Waterbox are two in the US that are recommended regularly. I have not heard of recifart.

An AIO tank works just as well as a sump, but a sump does have a couple of advantages. It makes it easier to hide equipment if you don’t want to see it, like tubing for your dosers, ATO, heaters, etc. and you have many more options to chose from regarding equipment like skimmers, reactors, etc. since you have more space in a sump to fit more types.

I have had both AIO and sumps, and I find having a sump is easier to do maintenance on than the tight quarters of an AIO. Also, you are not losing nearly as much space in the tank if you have a sump.

Yeah you are right and i got same advices from friends and youtubers too.

I made my decision, I just bought the complete set of the Maxspect ls-90 Black with another Ethereal Infinite.

The bill was salty but i don't regret it.

I will post pictures here of the new tank if some are curious.
