looking into getting a clam either derasa, squamosa or maxima, could i just use AFR with a single dosing head or should i dose something else on the side?

I don't see why not. I use AFR in a tank with a couple of clams. I don't know how much alk and calcium clams consume because I have corals also. You'll want to calculate your daily consumption before starting so you'll know how much to dose. Many folks can keep up with just WCs if consumption is low.
I use a doser now but I manually dosed for over a year with no issues.

Going on a year with my squamosa and only afr. It has tripled in size.
Ok i have a euphyilla primary tank, its been running for about 1 1/2 month now, wanting to see when its best to dose, and get a clam

I don't use AFR, but I dose magnesium, calcium, and KH separately. Honestly whether or not you need to dose something else really depends tank to tank. If you don't do water changes, some elements will get depleted or go out of balance. I would either suggest getting some ICP tests to know or to just dose AFR and do a water change every now and then.

If the tank is that young and your first tank, I would wait as much as a year before you try the clam....get things super successful for those stony corals and the tank and all your support routines super stable.

Clams tend to like a lot of light compared to corals. Corals are "low light" by comparison. Clams don't appear to have an upper tolerance threshold for light by comparison.
