After using Phosphat-e...My reading goes up!

I found I got more consistent readings by putting the sample through 2 coffee filters.

The math behind it is 50 * 3.06 and divided with 1000 -> 50*3.06/1000 = 0.153
3.06 is the conversion factor between PO4-P and PO4
1/1000 is the conversion factor between ppb and ppm

Im very confused...after 3 days of dosing Phosphat-e to remove phosphates, My levels are bouncing all over the place.....from 15 to 25 to 60ppm. Is there some sort of bounce back effect im not aware of? Do they get higher before lowering? HELP!
I spoke to Brightwell aquatics technical support and they confirmed that. Yes your phosphate levels after can rise but it’s a false positive because with the product does is binds all the phosphate together like the wild West you got a bunch of bad guys and your last sewing them together but now you still got it take them to jail a.k.a. remove them from the tank via water change or your filter sock. cause after you use the product it’s important to do water change what I’ve been doing is very small 5% water change is basically one 5 gallon bucket probably twice a day. i’m just incorporating it into the price of the treatment. It’s probably gonna take like 3/4 of a bucket of salt. What I’m doing is dosing three-quarter strength of maximum dose and taking a day in between to give everything rest but continuing to water changes.
I’ve noticed that the filter sock during this treatmenta filthy and skinner working overtime. I’ve read some horror stories of phosphate E, but I think it’s from people not following directions. It’s important to think about what this product is really doing. It’s very much similar to a water clarify for nitrates. It binds them together, but they’re still in the tank so you gotta get them out of there big things if you just put it straight in the water column that’s very bad because and bind these loose phosphates into the fish’s gills precious. I’ll‘s important to those directly into the filter sock and pay attention to your tank. I noticed a whole bunch of muck precipitating towards the bottom so I would just vacuum it out and keep changing the filter sock to three times a day as soon as it’s dirty, I can see this is when a filter roller would come in handy Knock knock on wood. Everything is going good so far I’ve had it on for about a week. but straight from the mouth of Dave and tech-support at Brightwell it’s important to go slow, for you can easily OD. Other big danger is if you drop PO4 levels to fast your fish and corals can die of shock

The person you are responding to has not been on in quite some time, but I do agree that methods that create particles by precipitation should avoid getting those same particles into a test.

On the nitrate comment, there’s no salt water product that binds it. Presumably you are referring to some material in fresh water.

Just an fyi, don’t always accept company assertions about how their products work. Often they do not know or give incorrect info.
