I’ve had my female Banggai cardinalfish (rather large, definitely an adult) with my ocellaris clownfish (adults but still very young, the male is rather small compared to the Banggai cardinalfish) in my 250l tank for a month or so. The clowns were first, then I bought the cardinal off from another hobbyist after a few days or a week. They didn’t have any problems previously, but now all out of a sudden the cardinalfish started pecking at both of the clownfish..??? Pushing them out of the anemone and driving them to hide in a cave. The female clown was doing her due diligence and was asserting dominance, but the Banggai cardinalfish doesn’t seem to care. I don’t know if she wants to get into the anemone (which is rather small still) or if she just doesn’t like the clowns or if she’s lonely… but what I do know is that it’s not good for the clowns. Especially when they’re trying to sleep. The only advice I saw was for the same situation, but the other way around. The clownfish being aggressive towards a Banggai cardinalfish so I’m stumped. Is it just the size difference or what??? They have a lot of rockwork, a bunch of hiding places and she gets fed well. The tank parameters are spot on (though since I don’t have that many corals yet (budget reasons… or rather, lack thereof), I sometimes get pink/red cyano, but that I take care of before it forms mats. Any advice is welcome! I also asked what to do from my local reef shop’s owner, but I haven’t gotten a response from there yet. Happy reefing everyone! Hope this gets sorted quickly.
