Hey sorry yes I’ll provide some updates shortly.

Few changes I’ve made:

-switched to fauna balling method
-changed out Reefbrite LEDs to reef breeders meridians. (Still running halides as well)
-trying to thin out the tank honestly as I will be moving this year. I will finally be getting my own coral room instead of a garage this time. Looking at a 600 sq ft room that will house around 1200 gallons of grow out tanks and space along with a modest 150 gallon display. Been planning this for a super long time but will provide pictures along the way.

Great time to start a Build thread!

Great time to start a Build thread!
I will start one first sure! I’ve been slowly acquiring everything I’ll need so it should be an easy and quick setup.

Can I message you re some things for Lear?
The new reeftrader site is giving me a headache.
I’m glad that reeftrader is still going, but it’s been a real pain. Posting pictures is much easier now though! Lol

I typically don’t make build threads or long post but I’m going to start a place where I can compile my collection and answer any questions anyone may have.

Tank: 8x3x1 grow out flat

Lighting: 4x 250 watt 14k halides, tons of Reefbrite xhos, and 2 reefbreeder photons

The big 3: Dos pumps feed in between 3.5-4 gallons of saturated kalk a day, BRS soda ash, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride/sulfate

Nutrients: Nitrates between 20-40 and phosphates between 0.2 and 0.4. I dose 12 mL of ammonium bicarbonate daily to keep nitrates up. Phosphates seem to fall in line with feedings.

Traces: stopped awhile ago and went back to regular water changes with aquaforest salt.

Food: I do a probiotic bacteria mixture with aminos, enzymes, and min s coral food. I feed this maybe twice a week at most
Great thread.
Could you explain better how you feed the corals? What probiotic bacteria do you use?
Thanks and good luck for the new location/tank.

*about* twice a week I will mix up saltwater, fauna Marin min. S, fauna Marin coral balance, and fauna Marin rebiotic in a large beaker. I will throw in some AF life source mud every now and then too. Mix for a short time and dump in the tank.

New light tease. I’m waiting on another 63” merdian that should arrive on Tuesday.

3x 250 watts haldies down the middle.
2x 63” meridians down the side
2x 24” meridians on the ends.

What is the depth from your halide bulb to your predominant frag rack?

What is the depth from your halide bulb to your predominant frag rack?
30” from the halide to the racks. I was doing some more par testing today and with the spread I am getting a pretty even coverage of 450-500 peak par on about 80% of the racks. It drops off slightly to 400 at the ends. I’ll be able to get more accurate par readings when the other 63” fixture arrives on Tuesday.

Meridians are running at 65% during peak

2 years ago I was a failure with a display tank full of flatworms! I live and learn from my mistakes.
What did you end up doing to eradicate the flatworms from your tank? Start over or try to stop the lifecycle in some way?

Beautiful pieces, very cool to see some of the growth progress.

Back then I ended up removing all my acros from my 90 display and put them into a 40 breeder. I did weekly dips in either KCL or bayer for a good 6-8 weeks. Lost a few corals in the process but was not taking chances.

Thanks, always interesting to hear what worked/didn't work for people. Also jealous of the sps scene in OH. In MN it's about 1/10 the size

Ohio has some good swaps! It’s nice having other people to back up acros for me and I back up acros for them. I’ve gotta a few back that I originally grew this way.
