We just purchased an AI Prime 16HD light for our 40 gal cube reef tank that we started a couple of months ago. There are so many options of colors and intensities that we can set the light at. Does anyone have any experience with this light? We want our corals and fish to thrive, but not let the green hair algae to go crazy. =)

I have 2 on my 40 breeder I run these settings.

It took me a but to get to these but I see these give me the best results with the least GHA.

Twenty of these on a 40!? o_O That's some serious PAR! (I assume the zero is a typo)

I have pretty similar settings as well with low CW.

Run the UV, Violet, Blue, and Royal blue no lower than 100%, add a splash of green, little to no red (I prefer it off), and however much white you like. I personally would max out the first 4 channels, run green at 20-30, and then run something like 10 white.

Hair algae is going to be dictated by the age of the tank and your phosphate levels. Remember that the whole point of these lights is to grow the algae that lives inside your corals, so if you are able to grow corals with your light, you can grow hair algae with the light.

Bulk Reef Supply's settings which emulate Ecotech's emulation (got that? :) of the ATI Blue Plus / AquaBlue Special T5 bulbs (so called AB+ settings) are an excellent starting point:

Here is the original paper by Ecotech which has valuable information: https://ecotechmarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/ReefWholesale_CoralLab.pdf

By the way, I have 3 AI Primes (2 HD13, the other is an original) over my 14 gallon nano cube. It is an anemone specific tank, hence the need for higher light intensity than many. (So you shouldn't feel bad at all at trying 2 on a 40 breeder!)

How much white do you run? I just put one on my 20Cube and I am not a huge fan of the Blue wash look. I setup a schedule very similar to saxby, but added 55% white at it's highest. It seems so bright.

The white’s only at 17%. Tbh I don’t even think it’s that blue looking to the eye, but on camera it is. That picture is with a polyplab lens.
100 on all violet/blues, 17% on red/green/white, the moonlight at like 3%.

Thank you. I think I am definitely going to play with it some more tomorrow

IMHO far too long of a photoperiod and way too high on the green and red. This is what I’m currently running - haven’t had many algae issues at all.

Sorry for the delay - here are a few pictures of my tank and the corals. Spectrum is very blue, but everything is looking really nice so far.
