Hi all,

I am in the middle of doing research to purchase the right light for my 30-gallons penisula. I am super confused as to which light will give me more bang for the buck. I have narrowed it down to 2 lights options, the Noopsyche K7 Pro 3 and the AI Prime 16HD. Now, out of these two, I dont know which one to get. The tank dimensions are as follow: 31.5x13.8x15.7 inches. I know I will need two fixture to properly cover the tank.

I am looking for better PAR coverage, but most importantly, a lot of color pop and some shimmer. Which of these two lights would you recommend and why? I really need your professional opinion to help pick the one. My budget is no more than 600 USD for a pair of light fixtures. Attached is an image of what I'm trying to achieve color wise.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the noopsyche, but you would need 2 primes on that tank. Primes are only 55 watts and provide a very narrow light beam. As an alternative, I have the nicrew 100 watt on my 32 gallon and I'm very happy with it, it grows anything.

Thanks for getting back to me, Mojo. I have also read about Nicrew Gen 2's. How are the coral colors with these? Any noticeable fan noise? Lastly, do you have a good picture of your tank with the light on so I can see? I know it won't do justice, but I'm trying to gauge the color pop on your tank.

The nicrew fan is quieter than the prime fan IMO. Its a seahorse tank so its light on corals, but it keeps this large leather and the mangrove tree happy.

I have had all 3 and the k7 is much better in par and coverage. The K7 also has better shimmer and color blending. Plus it’s also a lot less expensive. 2 K7 on your tank would be enough for sps and would need 3 primes for the same. For the nicrew G2 it was ok but sent back after a week as I didn’t feel
Like it gave much par and the controller attached at all times was annoying and the blues are combined into 1 ch and so is white so you can’t dial in exactly.

Thanks for the pic, Mojo.

Perfect, this is what I wanted to hear Jonreefer. Question, how's the fan noise of the K7's. My wife is a bit sensitive about noise and we have the tank in the livingroom where she has an area for yoga and meditation. Would you say the fans are relatively quiet until they ramp up to 100%. What has been your experience on this regard?

It’s been a few years since I had the tanks with them. I don’t recall it being all that loud. The AI you could hear and I had to have mine replaced in 3months cause fan went bad

if you don’t mind going with 3 light fixtures, you might consider the NooPsyche k7 mini. I have 2cover my 20 long and they are pretty adjustable and I like the shimmer they produce. 60 watts . Cost is reasonable at around 80 per.

Cool! It seems I'll opt out for the K7 Pros, though [two of them]. I'll wait some more for more people to chime in as I don't need the lights just yet as I'm still cycking the tank.

I did some reasearch about installing the Noop app for android and can't seem to find any videos on how to do it. Do you have any useful info on that as you already own the Noops?

I actually have an iPhone , sorry I can’t help there. Just have to download from App Store and launch it. Trickier part is the wireless connection. I just connect my phone to the light with WiFi and use it in AP mode and adjust the settings manually. It’s not intuitive but not horribly hard to figure.

I have both and have ran both also. The k7 is a spectral copy of the gen 4 radions. I only had the k7 on a system for a few months before I had to move.
The 16hds are what got me into the led game from halides.
I do not run them anymore and have them in a cabinet in the garage collecting dust, lol.
Either wil work well, imo.
My 18" nano cube running 2 16hds.

Amazing! Thank you so much for all of the inputs. I work in cybersecurity and was weary of installing a Chinese app on my phone. I had one laying around, wiped it clean, created a guest network and installed the app. You guys are making it a lot easier for me to decide. Keep those comments coming!!

to make programing the Noop easier you can use this
generate the QR code and scan it in the app and you dont have to use the clunky app programing

This is very helpful. Thanks for sharing. I looked at it and it seems it's mising the UV in the configuration but that can probably be setup after scanning the QR code.

I have a k7 pro3 on my IM20 long. I run it at very low settings due to high par. My blues are at 35max and the white, green, and red are 5 range. The fan comes on once in awhile. Sitting near it, I would rate the fan like a gaming laptop. But it only spin up for a short moment then goes silent. I also have the K7 mini but I definitely prefer the K7 more. Both are pretty easy to program for but you set it once never have to touch it again.

This is just based on my opinion, and experience. Between the two, I'd go with the Noopsyche. If you want the easy interface and controls of eotech, I'd look at an xr15. I run 1 xr15 g6 pro over a 40 gallon cube with lps and sps. You can't go wrong in any of those cases. Good luck!

I’ll throw in if you’re looking at higher end lights. Go with ReeFi Uno Pro 2.1 over the XR15. Less expensive and generally more powerful. I had one over a 22 gallon cube and used as augmentation with a photon v2 on a 90. Plus the controls are an easy to use web based app.
