Aiptasia Control

Hi All,

So I just saw this rather large Aiptasia today. Do you think a peppermint shrimp or filefish would actually go after it? With where it is located, I am not sure I could realistically get at it with F Aiptasia, and the rock structure it’s hiding under would be a bear to remove.

I will say that a peppermint shrimp will eat it with no problem and any that you’re not aware of . Not sure about about the file fish and f Aiptasia .

If you just got one, you can try to kill it manually by injecting kalkwasser paste at its mouth.

I think I spotted another one yesterday coming out from under my war coral. I can get to that one easy. The one pictured above will be a little harder with where it’s at. I might try some peppermint shrimp. I had a filefish, but he appears to have jumped out of the tank .

I have used Joes Juice for this, and if you can get the syringe near/in its mouth it will kill it.

Most important thing is to turn off all flow for 15-20m, let the product work and not spread.

I've had great success with filefish, but there's a chance they'll go after that tasty looking acan just above :)

My FF loves aiptasias; however it loves zoas just as much!

ORA peppermint shrimp - had over 25+ aiptasia down to 2-3 now. Took them a couple weeks to really make a dent, then i was noticing all the aiptasia disappearing, every night getting 1-2 since they came fairly small, but have grown quickly. They havent bothered my LPS or soft coral at the moment either, I do feed them a few pellets or mysis

I have had both. No peppermint shrimp right now. I have heard they don’t really go after the large ones which is why I was asking. I know they take care of them as I have never really had a problem (at least that I have seen) since I usually do have shrimp and filefish in my tanks. I might order some more and see if they’ll take care of the two I have seen.

The largest aiptasia in my tank had a head about 1" wide, they saved those for last but cleaned them, off i was impressed. I did have F-aiptasia on hand just in case they were not able to eat it due to their size, but woke up one morning and gone. Hope what ever way you choose gets rid of them :)
