Is this matter a matter of fine tuning my value on my main drain? It's silent then every 2 minutes you can hear the swoosh followed by air bubbles. What can I do to fix this?

Gate valve on primary is the only thing you can do to stop it from sucking it all down before your return can pump more up to fill the box. Assuming your primary drain in the overflow is lower than secondary or emergency.

This or a faster return anyway.

Your return pump and bean animal aren't running in-sync.

The use of ball valves on both drain and return pipes should fine tune the overall flow
