Airedale Reef

I’ve been deep in a mushroom phase lately, but let’s be honest, torches never really leave the conversation. The tank is gradually maturing into a mix of torches, zoas, and mushrooms, and everything seems to be settling in right where it should.

Those varieties clearly agree with my system, so I’ve been leaning into that and refining the collection rather than chasing everything under the sun as I did in previous tanks.

Latest addition: a 24K gold torch, looking swell!

Figured I’d share a small milestone...

Today 4/26/26 marks two years since I started this reef tank! 🥳

What a ride it’s been! There were many moments where everything seemed to thrive effortlessly, and others where it felt like the whole system was hanging on by a thread. Algae battles, parameter swings, unexpected losses, and plenty of second guessing…but also growth, stability, and small wins that kept me going. Nothing quite compares to seeing the first specks of coralline algae take hold, new zoa polyps start to emerge, or a torch coral finally growing from one head to multiple!

This tank has taught me patience more than anything else. As we all know, nothing good in a reef happens fast, and every mistake tends to show up eventually. But sticking through the ups and downs has made this milestone feel genuinely earned.

I’m proud of how far it’s come, not because it’s perfect (it definitely isn’t), but because it’s still here, still growing, and still maturing as a system.

So here is to year three, and whatever it decides to throw at me next. (Perhaps a bigger tank right lol)

Appreciate all the knowledge shared here along the way!

Cheers!

I feel as if the Airedale Reef is in its prime haha. I have been pleased with the overall look of the tank, and in particular, polyp extension and growth. I decided to spend some time and run the full gambit of testing this evening. Here are the results - all seem to be in range.

One of my biggest reef goals officially checked off...a Crocea Clam. 🐚💙 Not so much the clam itself, but the tank being stable enough to support and all it to flourish. These clams have always been the "you made it piece" in my mind, so adding one to the tank feels pretty special.
Cheers to chasing stability and accomplishing end reef goals! 💪

After an incredible journey, I think it’s time to close out this chapter of Airedale Reef.

This Innovative Marine 30L has been an amazing learning experience and has given me more enjoyment than I ever expected. It taught me a lot about reefkeeping, gave me the confidence to take the next step, and created countless memories along the way.

As with all reef tanks, this one eventually led me to the next adventure. The lessons learned here are coming with me as I begin my new build: Airedale Reef - ESHOPPS Mariner M100 Build.

Thank you to everyone who followed along, offered advice, answered questions, and shared in the journey. I truly appreciate all the support and conversations that made this thread such a great experience.

The 30L chapter may be coming to a close, but Airedale Reef continues.

See you over on the new build thread!https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/airedale-reef-eshopps-mariner-m100.1164507/
