alcohol dosing

i remember asking about this a while back.. i dont know what happened to the thread but i would like to start another one and get some info on dosing alcohol...

I take it you are referring to vodka? There is a good sticky at the top of this forum.

lol i dont drink... *sittin in a cloud of smoke*
but i read its a must to have a skimmer when dosing alcohol.. and i recently took out my skimmer(biocube protein skimmer) because it didnt do anything i guess because of how it was set up in the back of my tank(29g nanocube).. so when i get a sump and have more space for one, im going to try either the same protein skimmer or a new one before i begin dosing V.

Good call. I would definitely NOT attempt vodka dosing without a skimmer. The extra dissolved oxygen in the skimmer will offset the C02 released by the bacteria.

MOST definitely. Do not expect a biocube skimmer to carry the amount of scum that your tank will produce with vodka dosing. After you set up the sump, look for a nice little swc or bubble magus cone.

lol geez those are pricey, that lil biocube one was only like 20-30$..

haha. Actually any skimmer with a venturi will be better than what your using. Check the classified ads and CL for a used one.
