algae ID help please

Need help identifying the type of algae I have in my micro reef aquarium. Tanks been set up for about 1 year. Also, need
suggestions on how to get rid of it. Sort of looks like cobwebs.

I looked for a tank thread to get some background information.

What is the source of the rock and the substrate in the tank?

What livestock is in the tank?

How did you cycle the tank? Also, a better picture would help. Include full tank shot as well.

I can’t ID the algae. However, if your tank is small then rip clean your rock & substrate outside the tank.

With zero nitrate and I assume zero phosphate your tank is starved: get phosphate above 0.03ppm and nitrate above 5ppm

I am surprised that you don’t have dinoflagellates and/or Cyanobacteria with those bottomed out nutrients.

I was running both Algone and Chemi-Pure Mini Elite hoping to starve what I thought was some type of algae. Guess I was only making it worse? Could I dose Kno3?

Feeding your fish & coral would be a more long range solution.

Potassium nitrate does not address phosphate. And what is the inorganic phosphate in this tank?

Because I grow ornamental macro algae with fast uptake of nutrients, I dose ammonia and buy it by the gallon.

I can’t speak for uncle, yet I have the same observation. Of course, I have more information which was provided by op.

In general, a coral reef in the wild would be algae dominated if it were not for herbivores. I don’t see much herbivore crew in the tank.

PS: I run high nutrients and am somewhat “old school” after 55 years. Many janitors in this tank including two tangs.
