Algae only grows on dead coral Skeleton

What are your params?

I had hair algae growing on my yellow ribbon gorgonian so I just assumed it was dead but I left it in the tank hoping it would come back. Somehow it came back fully after shedding its skin, but maybe that’s just exclusive to soft corals

I have seen dormant soft corals shed an old skin covered in all sorts of stuff and spring back to life after a long time assumed dead.

If they don't stink if you sniff them they sometimes have a chance.
