Algae on glass

I am feeling really stupid for writing this but I was wondering everyone's tank I see in the members tanks section on r2r has no algae on the glass can someone explain to me how and why? I just scrub mine off (I have a 30 cube) but some of those 180,240 etc how do you guys do it?

Are you referring to the front glass or the back glass?

I clean mine at least once a week thats just part of reefkeeping.

I clean the front and sides of my tank once a week, using either a Magfloat or Flipper. To clean the back glass, I attach a mini razor blade scraper to a length of PVC pipe.

Most people clean their tank up nice and pretty before posting pics. I need to clean glass at least once a week.

Not Hijacking, but to add to the question. Do you keep your magfloat in the tank all the time or remove and clean after each cleaning? What method is the least likely to scratch your glass?

I take the magfloat out after I clean the glass and rinse it off. I have to clean my glass about once a week; I do it right before my water change so I can suck any floading studd out.

Once a week for me, I only clean front glass, and I leave my magfloat in the tank 24/7

I clean the glass on both my 210 & 125, every day to every other day. Rarely, do I go more than 3 days.

I am so afraid to scratch the glass on my starphire rimless...

Is there anything that can grow on the pad that might calcify and cause a scratch?

I was scared a little piece of gfo might makes its way on the pad and scratch the glass.

I leave both the magfloat and flipper in the tank 24/7. I have gotten pieces of sand in the magfloat before and will now typically check the pad before cleaning the glass.

Every 2 or 3 days at most. If I let it go longer than that it gets to hard. I like to make it easy otherwise it takes twice as long.

Yes, things can and will calcify on your mag cleaner. Take it out after each use and rinse off. I rinse an scrub with a toothbrush before and after each use now after too many scratches.

It has been 3-4 week Intervals since buying my new lights. My old tank, it was every 2-3 days and frustrating. I Also did get a Large magnafloat which makes task even easier.

For some reason I was just under the impression that those bigger tanks didn't created algae and looking back on the thread now I'm happy with the results I should have assumed most if not all would clean there glass before taking pictures

Yup, I have a similar thread in the reef chemistry. I thought something was wrong with my filtration having algae I need a razor to clean off in 3 days... But, it looks like it's normal.
I do mine once a week, but, takes around 1-2 hours, depending how thorough of a job I do (and if I try to clean the back glass and overflows)...
