Algae on marine pure block?

Ive had a marine pure block in my sump for about a year now and today I began to notice some stuff growing in and around the block and was just curious what it was.
Maybe the block is just doing so well it is growing stuff?

looks like detritus buildup, shake it out in a bucket of saltwater.
