Anyone local running an Algae Scrubber? And what are your thoughts. I will be setting up my basement sump and want to add a ATS to the system.

I have a 125 gal display tank with a 100 gallon Rubbermaid Stock tank sump.

Been wondering the same. My new tank very little of a bioload and my skimmer is an over kill. Been thinking of using a scrubber instead

Since your not getting a lot of feedback you may want to check with Yerboy (Jason) in the North Alabama Reef Club forum. From what I remember, his build pics had an ATS. He has a 190G with a 100G stock tank. At the time he really liked it. So he would have at least 2 or 3 years on it now.

Thanks
Randy

I have a year on mine. I love it. I have a 63 gallon cube and with the sump I have 70 gallons total. I've had the tank over a year, and am still on my first bucket of salt! That's how seldom I change water. Nitrates stay at zero. Floyd R Turbo has a great thread in the DIY section I believe. I have a 9" X9" scrubber lit on two sides. I have found that a CFL with a big reflector works best, but I have a 27W par 38 grow lamp on the other side due to space. My scrubber is in line with the drain and has about 500GPH flow.

I started with just the scrubber, but added a skimmer to eliminate a yellow tint in the water. It took about three months to really get going, but zero Nitrates since.

Thanks for the info Bad Company. I have been wondering what type of bulb to use. I picked up two of the big reflectors from Home Depot. I just need to figure out the bulbs. I have also red that the screw in red LED bulbs grow a ton of algae.
