So i was just watching some youtube video's and one guy said he build a algae scrubber and removed his protein skimmer and everything in his tank new crazy?? Since im new to this world of reefing. What if i Build and ran a algae scrubber and protein skimmer??

My waterfall algae scrubber keeps nitrates at zero. My Eshopps PSK-100H keeps the yellow tint out of the water. I spend about 30 minutes a week maintaining my tank..

Ya I just got a set of three turbo snails and 5 blue legs and red legs crabs. That's adding to my CUC already, so going to give them 2 weeks to get the hair algae under control. If nothing happens its DIY time.

I have a HOB sump from awhile back and going to try to turn that into a algae scrubber. The item has 3 racks and a open chamber so I dont know how i could make it work. haha but we will try!!!!!

The idea is that a big enough algae scrubber will be more than enough to keep your water quailty top notch, and you won't need a skimmer.

I have a trigger sys pro sump and need to figure out a way to run a mini one i guess? If thats a key factor in helpin keep corals. and water qual. good.

Hope you consider some of our models :)

+1...I use the Hog1x on my tank. I use it in conjuction with a skimmer. It produces quite a bit of algae...and my tank seems to continually contain less and less, so I guess it's doing the job I intended. There are many different styles...so do your research, but Santa Monica makes a top notch product.

I just went out and got the stuff for the upstream one. Everything is working fine. I'm going to have to learn how to rig up some Red LEDS. Right now i have a 5w red, blue, white RR sump light. One question, what happen if you dont ruff the plastic up. Has anyone ever tried it that way or is everyone just following someone saying that it has to be ruff to grow the algae the best? It sure does good growing on some ppl glass.

Here's what i came up with this after noon. I know i can do a bit different but its a start!!!

Alright ill take it out and ruff it a bit. Take a look at these lights i have around the house. M63346R: 6 LED Oval Stop/Tail/Turn Light
I see ppl using red LED lights I have two of these running off a 9v battery right now and on a 9.41 battery they draw it down to 8.44. Do you think these lights will do the samething as ppl DIY LED lights??
