Alk in Frag tank

Can anyone explain to me how a newly set up frag tank with tropic Marin pro salt (mixes to 7.5 alk)
can have an alk of 13.9? There’s nothing in the tank except a frag rack and couple pieces of rock rubble. I haven’t dosed anything either.

Yeah that’s the only thing I could think of as well. A bad reagent in the test kit

Nope. I use the Hanna checker and my alk in my sps dominant display tested 7.8

Try mixing up a small batch of new saltwater (like a gallon) and test it before you add it to the tank.

No, but I think I figured it out. I haven’t dosed any alk but I did try a bottle of that coralline algae in a bottle. Maybe that caused it.
