All for reef dosing

I dose AFR once in the morning and the alk will slowly become available during some time after dosing. I don’t think spreading it out is needed, but it’s fine to do so. I don’t think a 0.5 dKH alk change is a concern.

I would not dose AFR at night due to it consuming O2.
Wondering if there was a thread or any comments about your thoughts on switching to AFR? (I just noticed.)

I considered two options as I started up my new tank. AFR, or kalk and TM A and K.

Because of changes in my basement fish area used for reservoirs, I no longer had space for the 3 x 44 gallon Brute can reservoir that I used for kalk last time. If I did, I probably would have gone that route.

Instead, I went with AFR since its small dosing reservoir (a glass milk jug) can easily fit.

I do not really have any way to compare what is happening in my tank to what would have happened with kalk, but I am not regretting the decision.

I dose 50ml daily over a 12 hour spread that starts when lights start to ramp up and ends before lights out. I’ve done the one shot deal also. To me no difference. The reason I do over hours is to keep my dosing tip clear. I had issues with the tip completely clogging weekly and blowing the hose off the tip. The 12 hours program keeps tip wet and drastically reduces tip clogging. Maybe once a month I’ll clean the tip just to be on the safe side.

Hi Randy, I have an All for Reef question for you.
6 weeks ago I changed to AFR. Working really good and so simple but I have an issue, I dose 80 mls to maintain a KH if 8.8 and Ca of 425. The problem is I have a an oscillation in alkalinity of .5 dKH
I now dose 80 mls in 6 increments from 8 AM to 8 PM.
Sorry if this is long winded but how do I dose this to minimize the swing? Or am I overthinking it?
I'm not Randy, but that isn't much of a swing. I dose AFR in my 32g and been going strong with it for almost 4 years. I'm doing 33ml a day, spread across 24 doses (hourly) and you can lower the amount at night to keep it more consistent.

Thank you I appreciate the input, that is the answer I was hoping to hear
