Well, I'm getting back into the hobby after over a decade. After growing up in the 80s with an old school 45 salt tank (and many freshwater tanks of my own) I started with the original nanocube when they came out and had a couple of tanks over the next few years, culminating in a 625 gallon FOWLR. It was too much and I got out of the hobby.

Picked up a used 525 XL a few weeks ago and have been slowly getting it together. Aiming for something relatively easy to care for and not overly complex. We'll see how that goal goes.

I am over hitchhikers after my last couple of tanks - so I am doing marco rock and a mix of figi and special grade dry sand.

Equipment that came with the tank:

Vectra M1
2x MP40s (working on repairing one of them)
2x XR30 g3 pros

Adding:

Reef Octopus 150 INT
Turbo Twist 12x

I don't love any of the add in refugium baffle designs for this sump - so I am looking at drilling holes in a 2-5 gallon tank and popping it into the sump as a refugium

I spent all last weekend putting house jacks under the floor and getting the tank filled with RODI. Got it up to temp/salinity and added two clowns on Monday along with Bio Spira. I spent over 4 hours in my driveway last night with a bucket and a hose rinsing the dry sand.

Currently my living room and kitchen are full of towels and boxes. Need to get the skimmer and UV in place next week and start straightening up the disaster. Additional immediate to do list includes calibrating the very imbalanced XR30s before my OCD drives me insane, putting tint on the windows next to the tank to block light and replacing the convoluted PVC return piping with hose.

Well, I seem to be cycled. Went ahead and fired up the lights to 50% and picked up the beginnings of a clean up crew and a chalk bass.

Plan to get the skimmer and UV running next week.
