I’ve noticed the past few days my Alveopora hasn’t been opening and stared to bleach on the top resulting in algae growing.

I added photos of the coral and the rest of my tank for comparison.

System size w/ sump 112g
I don’t have a ‘PAR’ meter but it’s on my sand bed
It’s been doing good for weeks, I haven’t changed anything.

Dosing: all red sea

• Bioactive elements - 1ml daily
• Iron+ - 1ml daily
• Potassium -1ml daily
• Iodine + -1ml daily
• alk - 30 ml
• calcium - 8 ml
• magnesium - 0.5 ml
• NOPX - 20 ml

Doing a test on water today ( 3/13/2025)

Ammonia: 0.05
Nitrate LR: untestable
Nitrate HR: 2.7
Nitrite: 10
Calcium: 600
Ph: 7.7
Mag: 1450
Phosphate: 0.90
Alk: 10.2
Salinity: 1.024

I feed reef roids- 1 week broadcast feed
Was feeding 5ml of live nanocloropsis for 2 weeks
(It ran out)

Gods, those lights are so blue, and it's really close to the rock in there. Maybe move it away from the rocks a bit. Literally, so it's on an island in your substrate.
thats a 24" tank? Lot of light in there. And measurable ammonia??? Havent seen that in awhile... also have highish phosphates... maybe reduce them a bit and see what happens...
I would say lighting but there is A LOT of sunlight in that room. So should be g2g there...

Hi thanks for the response the blue light you see was at around 8pm when all other spectrum shuts off.
In the day all the corals except the alvi are fully open and puffy
I’m prepping a 20% water change for tomorrow
Then retest and see where that gets me and calculate how much I need to do monthly

If it's bleaching out can you try to cut the area so it stops spreading?

Also, Calcium is high, bring it down to 350-400 range. Mag keep it around 1350., bring sal up to 1.026, and PH is low, get it above 8.0 and bring Alk down to 9 range. High Alk cause bleaching of the tissues. What's your temp?

Move it up into the light, it likes light and flow..... It even looks like its under a monti in the shade. Thats a very deep tank and its too far from the light. My goni's are all under MH lights with strong flow and they thrive.

Phosphate .9? What test kits are you using?

So it’s actually my cousins tank
I made this forum for him
We are running GFO in a non aggressive way and going to preform a 20% water change using Red Sea blue bucket
His skimmer Venturi is pressed us against the glass, only way to get a good skim in to take out one of his baffles so there is clearance for a proper skim. But I’m not sure he wants to do that I’m going to his house tomorrow to start a game plan to slowly bring his level to proper levels and I’m ratio to each other so we can get his tank thriving again!
