So, I just started target feeding my Coral today, I used benereef and the Coral closed up immediately as I started, as if I scared it. I then gave it some time and tried again about 5 minutes later. It then didn't;t get scared from it and started closing up after about 30 seconds as if to consume the food. I don't know if I am doing it right now, because it has been like 3 minutes and it is completely opened up now. I know some of you don't like to feed your corals, but I read that my blasto Wellsi that I got will produce 5 polyps in about a year, and I don't want to take that long, because I used red Sea's recipe wizard and am doing a slow growth process, so I don't know how long that will take, so I am feeding it.

What kind of coral?

Most corals have a response where they close if they get scared. Blasting them with water (and food) can trigger a retraction response so it's possible you just hit them a little harder than they appreciated.
