Anacropora not opening. Unhealthy?

My Anacropora hasn’t opened ever since I got it. I’ve been trying to lure it out by feeding it some phytoplankton and still no results. The color at the the bottom has been getting dark and I’m not sure if it’s dying or algae.
My parameters: Ph: 8.2
Ammonia: 0.25 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrates: 0 ppm
Phosphate: 0 ppm
Calcium: 400 ppm
Kh: 143.2 ppm
Magnesium: 1470 ppm
Salinity: 1.025

I have a small skimmer going on in the back since I'll be adding a sun coral soon. should I turn it off for now or could I try feeding more?

Not sure how the skimmer and sun coral would relate. Skimmers are great in general, regardless of coral type.

I'd definitely recommend maintaining detectable amounts of nitrate and phosphate.

As far as this anacropora goes, I am certainly no expert so I would want confirmation from someone else, but I suspect you'll need to trim off the dead part and increase the nutrients.

Do you know your PAR, by chance?

Sun corals need a lot of regular feeding and I bought the skimmer for my parameters dont go crazy. Its a small tank, 20 gallon.
I dont know my PAR but I could try ordering a PAR meter to test.

You need some n03 and p04. You are starving the coral. Bottom is dead with algae and top is bleached.

Not sure how you are measuring nutrients, but that coral is goner…the bottom part is long dead and the top white part is days away.

I understand. I'll be dosing some nitrates and phosphates. I was a bit confused since the rest of my corals are doing really well it's just this acro who has been struggling.

That Clown goby in the back isn't helping any acros out either. They eat the polyps and perch in the branches. Until you get rid of that fish don't buy anymore SPS.

I didnt know that clown gobys would do that. I'll be removing the coral then and start working on my nutrients.

Yup. I love them and have tried multiple in my SPS tank. But I prefer SPS so I always remove the fish haha

I should do the same thing I really want to have some sps in this tank, I had an emerald crab in here which I removed no to long ago that I found picking on the acro. Maybe the goby was part of the issue too.

I know how inaccurate they can be so I always test twice

Api is fine for some things. I actually like them for a quick alk test. The calcium is fine as well. For both nitrate and phos, your best option is Hanna checkers, then red sea or salifert.
