I was told to keep my salinity at 1.024 to keep ich away but I am not really trusting the advice I was given and I really believe the info you all are giving me here a lot more. 1.025 will be the goal with todays change of about 15 gal in a 43 gal system. Then 1.026 will be the goal after next water change. .001 change in 3days I think would be ok
That will not in any way prevent ich. Fish stores run low salinity in an attempt to keep it off of the fish long enough for sale. Just do all of your water changes at 1.026. Eventually it will be where you want it.

These are the numbers as of this morning.

Temp 77
Salt 1.024
PH 8.0
Amonia .2
Nitrite .2
Nitrate 20-50
Cal 400
DKH 12

15 gal water change last night, new mag test kit comming later today. I posted a picture with the light on from last night right after the water change. It was throwing up some brown and green slime, I believe its still tossing out food from when I over feed it on Saturday. The pictures without light are from this morning. I am thinking the nitrates test is between 20-50 but It might just be me wanting it to be lower.

Don't need to test nitrite anymore.

im fighting the same battle as you but with a RBTA. mine came out for a day then went back into a dark cave.

i had around 11 DKH and was told its way to high to bring it down to a 7.

@Jekyl any input on keeping DKH around 7?
Eventually your tank will consume alkalinity. 7 is the low end whereas 11 is the high end. You'd basically be going from one acceptable extreme to another. For now just focus on stability.

I was aiming for stability at these numbers once I get their. I think I will get there with the water changes to coral pro salt.

Just keep checking up on the nem every day. dont do any major or drastic changes as it will upset them. i overpaniced when i bought my RBTA home due to it went into a cave for 2 days straight. i blew some food into the cave for it to eat. Eventually it came out and now its looking better and came out. it goes back into the cave at night which is completely fine.

did forget to ask though whats your lighting, what settings are they at, how high up are they from your tank and how far down does your tank go.

they will move based on lighting.

Lighting seems about correct then. just be on the watch for it mainly its mouth make sure its not inverting out its stomach.

I would also make sure its never upside down.

Lighting is easy to spot on my nems. If not getting enough they will go high up and reach for the lights. If too much they don't reach. They always find a cave or overhang to plant their foot in either way. I backed off my kessils a little because I was worried about other coral. The nems in the next couple days started stretching upwards higher than before. I wouldn't tweak your lighting right now. Get things stable and let the anemone be. I had my kessils at 90 or 95% and they still didn't back down. I slowly worked it up that high though.

They move on a myriad of possibilities, number one is nothing anyone can surmise, and if they say so they are guessing. Water quality is the best gauge over the years imo....lighting they will often adjust and find their happy place...just my and Big Berthas opinion. ;)

I have also started a more strict feeding schedule. I am sure I was way over feeding and feeding the wrong foods. Only good news that I can get out of this is my tank is cycled I guess?

Okay am I the only one that thinks it's a bit odd that you are getting detectable ammonia? Especially when it climbed to .4 yesterday before your water change. The low calcium that day seems like an odd major drop too. Could be a faulty test reading possibly but I wouldn't consider a tank cycled if you have detectable ammonia. Definitely agree with everyone else, safest bet is to take it back and give your tank more time to stabilize. Also seems odd to have high nitrates and still have ammonia and nitrite, might be worth trying a different test kit or have the lfs test your water to get a comparison.
