Hey all,
I have a reef aquarium that I'm still stocking with coral as it matures and I have always looked at getting an anemone for my clownfish but have put it off both because my light wasn't good enough before and also because I am worried it'll sting and kill my corals or split and become invasive (or get cut up in my wavemaker). I've finally decided I want to give it a try but I don't know how to care for them or anything so I wanted to see if anyone could tell me the things I need to know so my clowns can have an anemone (I also decided this because my clowns have recently begun hosting my torch and I don't want them destroying and killing it). My light is good for them now as I recently upgraded to an AI Edge 44HD for the purpose of me wanting to add SPS to the tank. So basically I'm just wondering how to care for it and what I need to know to do and what not to do under any circumstances.
Thank you!

From my experience, nems just need light and stable parameters.. You can definitely feed them if you like, it's really up to you. I'm not sure if it's true but I read somewhere the more you feed the better chance they will split and so forth. Be cautious they will move whenever and wherever so be cautious with corals.

So….. I HAD a mixed reef. SPS, lps and softies. I too decided to introduce a beautiful RBTA for my clowns.

Now my experience is different of course but I’d like to give it anyways.

I put in the nem and it was super super happy, it got super big also. Then one day I had 3, then over the course of a couple months I had 8, then 6 months later I had 15, then a year later at last count I’m at 28 if I’m counting correctly.

They like to move all over until they are happy. Even if it finds a spot it likes, it’ll still move. I lost 3/4 of my SPS to direct stinging and I’ve left them in there because of the encrusting I know they’ll come back since the nems have moved.

I know this experience is very unique and not very typical however I apparently have the perfect perams and keep nems super happy. They do get fed from when I feed the fish, I’ve never fed directly. They really like the light spectrum and flow they are getting. At some point I’m going to try to tickle some off rocks and take to my LFS. At this point I’ve accepted I have a nem dominated tank while still having other LPS and softies.

If you have any direct questions on how to keep them let me know. Here’s some pictures for the eye.

Is it a forest fire by chance? They do have the reputation of splitting a lot because they’re an aptasia and not like you can sell the newly split ones cause nobody wants them
