I recently purchased a RBTA in my newly established tank. He was wondering for a few days retracted ok i guess normal. Then for the past few days it found its place didnt move and was looking fantastic. It doubled in size from when it was at my LFS. I was finally happy it found it spot. Then few minutes ago it started stretching weird i thought it was going to split or something like 15 min later it just disconnects from the rock and falls down and expels this black stringy stuff. Now hes rolled up in a ball looking bad. Never had nems before so dont know if he just took a dump or something but he dont look right.
Did tests this morning. Alk 10.5. Calcium was low because of stupid Hanna checker 350 Mag 1330. Salinity 1.025- ph 7.7
Light Radion Xr15 Gen 4 2 of them
Phosphates few days ago were zero
Nitrates like 10
Sorry for crappy pics

O don't think its good. Maybe take it back to the lfs and see if it gets healthy there. Then you can get something else, otherwise im sure itll die. Rbtas are expert inverts imo.

What are your nitrates, ammonia and phos? How old is the water?

Yeah take it back, or honestly it wont live. And it could pollute your water.

Id have you lfs test all your water parameters. Get them corrected, and maybe take it back later on when your tanks in good shape.

They also need to eat light and food. But they are not easy to care for, even for me ive got 15 years in this hobby.

It could be your alk is way off, or salinity.

Ok. Can you get a clear pic of whats coming out? Usually white stuff coming out is its guts, ive never heard of black. If you down the blues and up the whites or put on the flash it should be easier to see whats goinf on.

Also id bet your calcium is actually lower thab what the hanna is saying. Try with a colormetric test kit like salifert or something

Hanna doesnt worj well for calcium, too much interference

Yeah hanna was saying 500 than 421 then i got it to 350. I checked with Salifert and Red Sea everything this morning. Calcium is 340 as per the other 2 kits. I decreased calcium dosing few days ago because was trusting the Hanna meanwhile i was actually low. My alk went up in this past week from 9.5 to 11. In still adjusting the dosing

Can yoh do a one time dose of calcium chloride? Or how about a hige water change to correct it? Then see how it is in the morning.

If it were me id add calcium chloride all at once to boost it to normal levels at 400-420ppm, since its an emergency situation, it kind of requires an emergency response.

It could just be poop lol. Wait for a while and see if it improves. If it eats and doesnt spit it out, it should be okay.

Yes id boost calcium all at once then.

If it were me, id dose calcium hydroxide in your auto top off instead of the 123. Pretty hard for calcium and alk to get messed up with calcium hydroxide in the top off.

But what hard coral do you have using it up?

Yeah those few could drop your calcium, nothing unusual.
