Angular sea whip placement n care

Hi I’m trying to figure out where to put my angular sea whip and how to take care of it, sorry my tank looks bad I was moving some coral around cause I got a new colony of zoas, I know they can be finicky with flow so I’m trying to find the best spot for it also my hammers too I just have them on the sand rn to keep em away from
everything

Sea whips are NPS Gorgonions. They don’t need light and they are filter feeders. I suggest robust circulation.

There are several variety of sea whips. Where did yours come from? And, are you located in Louisiana or Indiana?

Indiana, I’m pretty sure it’s a photosynthetic one it’s petrogorgia anceps. Surprised it’s alive cause apparently it was in the lfs for a year though photosynthetic gorgonians died faster than that

It’s kinda shedding cause I epoxied it cause it kept falling over

Provide as much light and current as you can throw at that thing. If you're right about the identification, which I think you are, these things grow in super shallow water on mixed sponge/seagrass flats. They get intense Florida sunlight and experience some serious tidal flow throughout the day.

Should I really throw that much flow at it, I am scared part of its just gonna snap off. Like part of it bent and has started to form like a knobby part. Maybe that’s how they branch?

Pterogorgia anceps, commonly known as the Angular Sea Whip or Purple Ribbon Gorgonian, thrives in high-energy, shallow water environments on Florida reefs, typically at depths of 5 to 10 feet (1.5–3 meters), though they can be found down to 65 feet. They prefer strong, consistent, and often surging water currents, which allow them to remain clean and avoid being smothered by algae.
