I saw a bunch of recommendations on using a 40b as a sump on a 75 DT. However, I am thrown off on how the dimensions for my stand as the 75 and 40 breeder are both ~18" deep.

Tried searching/googling stands for this but couldn't find much.

I figured just to make the stand a little wider but thought that would throw off the structure as then the 75 wouldn't be sitting right on the 2x4's.

A few options off the top of my head.

The most obvious and simplest: use a different size sump...

However, the 40 breeder is a great size... So, assuming the 75 has trim on the bottom, and the stand is designed for it to sit directly on the 'support' beams, you could simply use a sheet of plywood (1/2" should do it) on top, and place the tank on that so the weight is distributed to the new support beams.

Another, under the same assumptions; keep the current support beams, add the addition, and brace the back beam on both sides of the 40b. This should distribute the weight well enough.

Lastly, add the addition and replace the beam the back brace rests on with a '2x6 or 2x8' and brace them on the ends of the beam (inside the stand). Think a king/jack stud over a doorway span...
