After a major tank wipe out I'm downsizing. I picked up a Nuvo 38 (24x19x19) that I will be transferring my corals to.

I'm going to QT this time to prevent another wipe out.

Anyways, what would you stock in here?

I was going to do a pair of clowns and...

Not sure what else. I love angel fish so would a flame be ok in 2 foot tank? If not maybe a pygmy then?

It's going to be bare bottom so I'm not sure a watchman goby will work. A long nose hawk fish might be a better bottom dweller? I also like blennies.

Perhaps some fire fish? A royal gramma?

Give me suggestions please.

I'm looking for a screen top so perhaps a sandless wrasse could work?

One of the possum wrasses, or a pink streak wrasse would be great.

I definitely would not recommend a flame angel for a 2' tank. The smallest (pygmy) Centropyge angels are better, but I still don't love them for your tank size.

Something like:
Pink streak wrasse
Clown pair
Firefish
Tailspot blenny
Royal gramma

I have a soft spot for the tailspot blenny. First salt water fish I ever got. He was in my first salt tank, a 10g nano.

I had a flame in my 90g and he really did move a lot. I'll avoid all dwarf angels.

What do people think about doing a dwarf angel here?

Definitely not. I had a Flame Angel who was an instant nightmare in my 36 gallon bowfront and the tank was longer than yours is.

Fair enough.

I'm considering a cherub angel, 2 clowns and a royal gramma right now. Maybe a tailspot blenny as well.

Cherub might work and the rest of the list looks good, even the tailspot blenny.

pair of clowns, fang blenny and bangi cardial. boom done? :)

pair of clowns, goby/jawfish, and a pygmy possum wrasse, maybe a pair of bangaiis

wait just saw that your tank would be bare bottom, don't know about the goby or jawfish...

Yeah, thats the worry. I really like the Watchmen Gobies as well but I think they would be much happier with sand.

I have the same tank and here’s my stock list you could use for ideas:

1 banggai Cardinal
1 tailspot Blenny
1 yellow watchman goby
1 court jester goby
1 Pygmy geometric hawkfish
1 Radial filefish
2 scissortail dartfish
3 Pederson shrimp
2 porcelain anemone crabs
1 tiger pistol shrimp

Some might say it’s a little overstocked, but if they’re small and peaceful fish it’s easy for them to coexist and thrive. I’d definitely recommend not getting a flame angel for that size though.

Wow this is very helpful. Do you have a build thread?

How long has your tank been running? Have you had any reliability problems with the tank? I am getting a bit nervous to set it up since I have read they are prone to cracking.

It’s been up almost a year. I originally had this tank way back before going to college and now 9 years later I’ve set it back up again. It’s traveled on the back of a pick up truck 8 hours to get from my parents place to here and it still super solid. I have read a couple stories of people having issues but I haven’t had any.

I don’t have a build thread yet, but I keep meaning to make one. I’ll link it when I get around to it.
