I had three Anthias that I purchased as a group. Unfortunately one passed. If I purchase another, do I need to make sure it is a female to be safe? It is a 180g tank.

It depends on the species for your best course of action. For feisty species such as bartlett or squammipinnis anthias, getting a few females is necessary. For randalls and dispar, a single female can be added.
