Apex salinity probes need too be calibrated and are known too be finicky..having a refractor on hand too double check is a good idea ..as for the salt it should say on the box what it will mix too ...I would increase your mag though .!
I have a refractometer I can check salinity with. It was the low mag and the alk at 8.4 that is throwing me off. Also, if the alk is at that value, shouldn’t the Ca be correspondingly higher? I just bought a doser because I have added corals and another rock to the aquarium.
I would check what your salt mixes at and just do water changes to bring things in line ...is your tank using a lot of alk ...do you have a lot of corals ....,? Otherwise water changes will suffice until your alk uptake is so much that water changes aren't enough ..then start dosing
I have 9 lps corals. I literally did a 25 gallon water change on about 150 (125g tank & 40g sump)gallons of total water volume yesterday. It was their lack of coming out today that let me know something was up.
