Any fellow kayakers out there?!

I live in Missouri - surrounded my rivers. I kayak all the time, it’s hard to beat !

here's the problem I have with kayaks, they've no keel/ 4 feet is what Id prefer. The year was 2006 Im in Austin for a wedding/someone elses lol. They r renting 15 min kayak rides on the colorado, across from holiday inn. I take myself and my six year old child who is a trained water swimming dolphin/ otter child.

we board the kayak fully clothed, and dry.

within two seconds we're both upside down and it doesnt self-right like in the movies. I reach back underwater, grab my daughter by the scruff of the clothes, arm rip her out of the seat and thrust directly up so she heads towards surface. i wasnt worried about the submersion dunk we're not water panicky, it was getting her out in time. after launching the child upwards I then wrestled myself out lol and my glasses and wallet but thankfully not keys are still in the bottom of that river, and kayaks need keels. when we walked into the hotel lobby it was clear to others what had occurred. I still dont know the cause, if you're not allowed to lean one degree on a kayak then it sounds like a very rigid venture lol

Went with an open top kayak just for that reason lol. DIdn't want to be trapped!

Love being able to take my kayak anywhere and fish any spot I want. Can't beat the sunburns either!

I want one so bad so bad, but I think about my abilities when alone, out on a lake, certainly rocking out to some little bluetooth mp3 speaker. It will all get dunked dangit, I want to try kayak fishing!!

sorry to hear about your incident! Not all kayaks are born equal from a stability aspect. Some are just like what you said, lean a degree left or right and you're taking a bath haha. Some I own you can stand up and paddle in them.

well I did not know / degrees of stability/ that lol it sounds safer for sure

Went kayaking off the coast of Boston a few years ago. It was quite the experience, I got soaked haha! I fish out of kayaks a lot and go down rivers frequently.

I live on a inland lake here in Michigan...

Bass fishing on the Kayaks is great fun.

Just make sure to bring a beer or 2 along for the ride.

I want to do some ocean kayaking. I am trying to justify buy a 4K epic kayak.
that's a steep entry point haha. Maybe more justifiable if you live near the coast. I'm a land locked Wisconsinite :) I'm just on the verge of acquiring a crossover which is good for up to class III rapids while still being somewhat useful for flat water. Definitely the next step up for me. Looking at a Dagger Katan 10.4

I Iive in Southern Maryland maybe six miles from the Chesapeake Bay which I have been on in my Tsunami145. I also intend to get a river runner (something liquid logic) for rapids as my touring boat couldn’t handle 2+ (Mad scary ride for me backwards). That Katan looks like something I would paddle.
