Any PC people get a Mac for X-Mass?

Yes, that's it. Did you test the trial version? Just to make sure it's something you want...

I lost all my iTunes ratings and play counts when I moved it over to the Mac. Plus apparently you can't use Time Machine on a shared PC/Mac FAT32 external hard drive (??)

I haven't had a chance to try it.
For only $37, it's not that much of a gamble.
Heck, I've paid more than that for a single paly polyp.

Point taken... Let me know if you a hand with it. It's pretty straight-forward though...

I may just try the free trial ( my wife saw that last post of mine and gave me hell )
and see.
Thanks for the help.
If I have problems I'll holler.

mfinn, how has your experience been thus far?

I'd like to get a mac, but I have no real reason to get one other than pure want.. I haven't used one since 96. :)

Hehe... If I'm not mistaken, if you like the trial and end up buying it. All you need to do is plug the serial key from the purchased copy into the trial and it will register it.

I know you asked mfinn, but I just got one too and it was mostly a "want" as I could have gotten a cheaper PC laptop. This is my first and so far:

1. Hardware is beautiful compared to PC laptops.
2. There are some clever features in OSX and built into the Mac in general that are neat that are not in Windows.
3. Overall, I don't see much difference between OSX and Windows as far as general usage, but I haven't explored all the iLife programs as of yet.

So right now, just a week or so in, I would say I'm most impressed with the hardware.

My learning curve is a little rough, being a old timer.:)
I was dragged into Windows kicking a screaming a few years back.
But my impression so far is,,,It's a cool little laptop.
Very easy to setup and use.
It was bought as a unexpected gift. I just mentioned to my wife one day that I was a little curious about a mac.
I still will use a windows pc for most of my stuff, but we'll see what the future will bring.
I travel occasionally and use to haul around a 10 lb dell that felt like 50 lbs after hiking through big airports and I know the macbook will make that much easier.

Is it worth it to buy into the Apple Care Protection Plan?
3 year phone support and hardware support for $250.

I say yes for good reason lol. Within 11 months of having my new Macbook my hard-drive died, and I lost everything that was on it. Nothing was recoverable. (I make sure to back-up everything now to an external hard-drive!) If it had decided to crash a month and a day later I would've had to shell out almost the same amount of money I paid for the Macbook to get it fixed. I bought Applecare when I had the hard-drive replaced. You have up to a year to purchase it.

I don't plan on getting Apple Care unless it starts giving me issues within the first year. You can get it anytime during that first year, IIRC. I'm not about to give this company more money after plunking down so much for the computer in the first place.
