Anybody else struggle with dosing?

I'm testing every few days, but I feel like my parameters keep swaying...
I have 2x BRS 1.1ml/min dosers in the tank that run for 5mins per hour for 7hrs per day totaling about 35ml of Alk and 30ml Calcium..

Every week I keep having to increase the dosing. Is it just that my corals are uptaking another 1ml per week, or am I struggling here? Is this normal?

are you testing alk at the same time every time you test it? Testing alk at 10 am and 10 pm can have a huge difference

Also, check your magnesium. If you're not dosing mag, it'll drop, and you'll get more precipitate from your CA/Alk dosing (and yeah, its totally possible if things are going well that your load is just going up. A lot of people swap out of 2-part to reactors/etc because they're dosing so much and its a pain)

Yeah I always check in the morning +- a few hours.

Maybe the corals are just uptaking more and more week after week, I just feel like I never have a touch free operation for more than a week.

Magnesium is about 1300 when I checked last week.

Heres a question - I have the Alk & Ca dosing on opposite schedules - Alk at night and Ca during the day. Could the alk be swinging lot during the day doing it this way? Should I consider changing the dosing to have them divide the dosing up evenly across the day?

How much dkH are you dosing per day? (IE, what does 30ml work out to?)


The more you break it up over multiple doses, the less overall change you have. (IE, rather than dropping .5dk over the course of the day, it drops .25,gets dosed, and then drops .25 again)

Right now it runs for 5mins per hour for 7hrs (12am-7am for alk), then Calcium runs 12p-7pm same 5mins per hour.
