Anyone dosing saltwater to compensate for trident sampling?

Do you auto dose salt water to compensate for trident sampling volume?

  • No, I do frequent enough water changes

  • No, but I didn’t consider the trident sample volume and might look into this.

I just set up a new apex trident system and was surprised by the sample volume of 7 mL per test per parameter. On a 6 test per day schedule (3 alk + 3 all), this is almost 100 mL per day of lost water. I don’t do frequent water changes, so over the course of a month or 2, this sample volume can result in a noticeable salinity drop.

I was thinking I could just set up a dosing pump to replenish salt water lost to sampling, so its an easy enough fix, but I was surprised not to see this topic discussed anywhere when I searched google and this forum. Is this something most folks already understand and are already managing or is everyone else on a frequent enough water change schedule that the impact is negligible?
