Anyone else currently away from their tank?

I’m in Charleston, South Carolina visiting family and friends. Flew in from San Diego this past Saturday and going back this Saturday. GF is taking care of nitrate/bacteria dosing, feeding the fish (first time ever for her ), watching the tank in general while automated dosers handle big 3 and kalk, ATO handles evaporation, etc. Anyone else currently away from their tank? Hope everything is ok with the reef when you guys as well as myself get back.

I got your back if you do have a reef meltdown and need backup. We rarely travel because of the anchor pets!

Hope you’re having fun in laid back Oceanside and thanks for the backup if something happens. I’m trying to set up something here with a college buddy to see a Braves Padres game in Atlanta. Only I’ll be rooting for the Braves since I’ve been a lifelong fan of them.

I just got back after a week away from mine. I maybe way over-did it with detailed instructions and prep for my tank-sitter but I was pleasantly surprised that nothing died and my parameters were all exactly where I left them, ha. Guess my borderline-insane prep and planning paid off!

On day 17 in Germany. Alk slightly increased higher than I wanted it, but otherwise cameras and Hydros devices are telling me everything is ok. Will be back in 3 days.

You can never be too detailed and thorough when giving instructions to a tank sitter. Glad your tank did well during your vacation.

Been a construction worker all my life and have had to travel to other states to work for as long as 6-7 months at a time. During the longer periods I have managed to get home for a holiday or long weekend once in a while.
After the first trip away, the phones calls home were sometimes depressing because of all the issues my wife had keeping things running. Most if not all were minor things to me that took a minute to resolve, were to her life altering episodes.
So after the first trip away she demanded that I make things bullet proof. I mean things had work perfectly.
Main thing was after power outages. The tank had to restart and act as if nothing had occurred.
Pre-measured fish food. Detailed examples of how order more and make the premade packages.
Detailed instructions on simple water changes. Water changes that did not involve lifting buckets. Water change containers with wheels. Pumps with long hoses if she mixed the water in the garage.
Any dosing or chemicals that normally would be added if I were home were paused.
Keeping things simple worked.
Above all else making sure my wife was on board with doing all this while she had her job, taking care of the house/kids, and just life in general.

Your wife sounds like a great partner. I am blessed to have a husband who will do whatever is needed for my tank as well.

Wow, I can’t imagine being away from my tank for months at a time.

I’m currently heading to Mississippi for the rest of the week for work.
I’ve took Front tank shot after 3rd coral snow treatment combating cyano organically and seems to be working well. Extra feeding+coral snow…. I hate that I have travel but I will continue to deal with it when I come Friday.

2 hours before leaving for Italy from NJ, my wife tells me something is leaking in the basement. She says “it might be your fish tank”. Luckily it was just a backed up sewer line ! .
